Through regular training of effective strategies for neurodiverse encounter, law enforcement agents can reduce the number of false arrests, and create safer more inclusive communities. Training firefighters and first responders has been proven to lower the number of injuries, increase proper care and decrease any unnecessary harm to those with autism or other neurodiverse mindsets.

Creating Community Connections
Through community connections, those with ASD will find familiarity of people and vehicles during an emergency situation. This can reduce stress and decrease risk. 

NDATs Safer Encounter Training

This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of the minds of neurodiverse individuals. This course will look at topics including common characteristics, executive functioning, theory of mind and how people with ASD navigate a neurotypical world. This overview training will build a strong foundation on the topic and some strategies and tools that could be used when encountering, working with, or serving neurodiverse individuals.

NDATs Department Training

This course is designed to provide fire and EMS personnel with a basic understanding of neurodivergent individuals who are drawn to the fire service for its structured routines, uniforms, strong sense of fraternity, and communities of shared interest. This course will look at how neurodivergent individuals navigate both the neurotypical world and the unique culture of fire and EMS departments. This  training will build a strong foundation on the topics of  recruitment, onboarding, and training approaches that both paid and volunteer departments can use to increase enrollment and better support their members.

NDATs Community Engagement and Self-Care Training

This course is designed to provide a deeper understanding of neurodiversity and autism beyond foundational concepts, with a focused exploration of sensory processing differences and how they shape the daily experiences of neurodivergent individuals. This course will look at topics including sensory overload, co-occurring mental health conditions, and the unique stressors that neurodivergent first responders and their families face both on and off the job. This in-depth training will build upon prior knowledge and equip participants with greater insight into the internal world of neurodivergent individuals, along with practical strategies and tools for supporting mental health, reducing burnout, and fostering resilience in both the workplace and the home.
